We talk about confidence as though it’s a personality trait, something a child either has or doesn’t. The bold child who raises her hand. The assertive child who introduces himself to strangers without a second thought. We watch these children and think: how do I get my child there?<\/p>

Confidence isn’t a trait. It’s a skill. And like any skill, it can be developed. But only if we understand what works.<\/p>

Because here’s what most of us get wrong: we try to build confidence from the outside in. Praise, gold stars, encouraging words, achievements on the wall. These things are not bad. They just don’t build deep confidence. They build kids who are good at seeking approval. And approval-seeking is fragile; it crumbles the moment the praise stops or the next challenge appears.<\/p>

A truly confident child isn’t one who never doubts themselves. It’s one who has doubts and keeps going anyway, because they have an inner framework that tells them: I’ve handled hard things before.
